Jackson EMC never shares your personal or account information with any outside parties, in fact, our Bylaws forbid it.

If you suspect someone is currently at your home or place of business impersonating a Jackson EMC employee:
- Call your local police immediately.
- Call Jackson EMC at 1-800-462-3691.
- DO NOT let the individual inside your home.
- DO NOT go outside with the individual.
- DO NOT provide them with your account number or any personal or financial information.

What Scammers May Do
Common Tactics Used to Defraud Members
Jackson EMC works hard to protect members’ personal and financial information. We want you to be safe and informed about tactics used to gain your personal and financial information.
Unauthorized Phone Calls (Spoofing)
Spoofing is the latest scam, which makes you think a phone call is coming from a legitimate company rather than who's really on the line. Lawbreakers can mislead members by changing their outgoing number to make it appear as if they are calling from Jackson EMC. The more sophisticated scammers have even copied or duplicated Jackson EMC's recorded options to fool uninformed victims. They usually claim the member’s account is past due and that their electricity is about to be disconnected if they do not provide payment immediately. Often, the member is asked to purchase a pre-paid debit or Green Dot card and provide the account number on the card. With access to the account number, the criminals use the money on the pre-paid card for their benefit.
In-Person Collection Visits
Criminals have been known to visit members in-person, claim the member’s account is past due and that their electricity is about to be disconnected if they do not provide payment immediately. This unethical tactic has victimized both residential and commercial members. Criminals, operating in Georgia and other parts of the Southeast, have frequently targeted senior citizens or those speaking English as a second Language.
Jackson EMC does not call or visit members to ask for personal or financial information like a credit card, debit card, banking information or social security number over the phone.
Digital scammers have been targeting utility members with an email linked to a false payment website. The email subject line reads “Is Your Jackson Electric Bill Due Tomorrow?” with a link to mint.com, a bill paying service not connected to Jackson EMC.
Jackson EMC does not email members to inform them of past due balances.

Jackson EMC continues to work with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute criminals who pose as Jackson EMC employees to defraud members.

How Jackson EMC Will Contact You about Your Account
Jackson EMC will never send an employee to your home or business to collect payment. Please do not provide payments or your personal or financial information to anyone who calls or visits your home or business claiming to be a Jackson EMC employee.
How Jackson EMC Contacts Members
When an account is past due, a past due notice is mailed to the account billing address. Then, we call the primary account telephone number with a pre-recorded courtesy reminder letting them know the account is past due and the account will be disconnected. If a payment is due, customers may contact Jackson EMC to make a secure payment in one of three ways:
- Call Us at 1-800-325-8597 to make a payment through BillMatrix, our third-party provider.
- Visit Us to make a payment at your local office.
- Pay online through our secure member portal.
When Jackson EMC Visits
If an employee needs to visit a member’s home for a service-related issue, they will be in uniform and present a photo ID with a Jackson EMC logo. They will also arrive in vehicles marked with Jackson EMC logos. Contractors working for Jackson EMC will arrive in vehicles marked with logos that read “Contractor for Jackson EMC.”
